OneDrive: great if you use Microsoft Office

OneDrive is Microsoft's offering and shines for people who work with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Free storage: 5GB.
- Best for: students and professionals who use Microsoft Office, and Windows laptop users.
- Strengths: deeply built into Windows and Office, so your documents save to the cloud automatically. A Microsoft 365 subscription bundles a large amount of storage plus the full Office apps, which is good value if you need both.
- Watch out: the free tier is the smallest of the three, so you will hit the limit quickly with photos.
iCloud: the natural choice on Apple devices
iCloud is Apple's service, designed to work seamlessly across iPhone, iPad and Mac.
- Free storage: 5GB.
- Best for: people who own multiple Apple devices.
- Strengths: photos, messages, contacts and backups sync effortlessly between Apple devices with almost no setup.
- Watch out: 5GB fills up fast — often within weeks on a single iPhone — and the experience is weaker outside Apple's ecosystem. There is a web version and a Windows app, but no proper Android app.
